Tamil Insight commences its News-Sharing today, 16 January 2006.
The ultimate aim of the Tamil Insight is to serve as an up-to-date “Thoughts-Pool” reflecting the thoughts and views of the Tamil people spread across all nooks and corners of the world.
But Tamil Insight is duty-bound at the moment to reflect the conflict, the philosophy, news and thoughts, emenating from the Tamil areas in Sri Lanka. It is true, the views of the ordinary people, social organisations and political parties related to the conflict are being articulated in meetings, assemblies and media, on either side of the divide in Sri Lanka. While the reflections and views of the Sinhalese are well represented in widely circulated Sinhala and English media, the views of the Tamils are mostly confined to war-affected Tamil areas where distribution, because of inadequacy in transport and communications, is scanty and readership limited. The English media, both State and private, based in the Sinhala South and reaching the world, tend to follow a parochial, scanty and discriminatory attitude when it comes to reflecting the views of the Tamil people on national and development issues. The conflict in Sri Lanka, with the involvement of the International Community and the International Facilitators has now become globalised. While the views and arguments of the Government and the Sinhala people are reaching the world community through the English media, the views of the Tamil community are not fully presented. It is here that the Tamil Insight offers to play its role. It proposes to serve as a platform in English to bring to the attention of the world, the translations of editorials in the Tamil dailies, related articles written by monolingual experts and columnists and news appearing in the Tamil media. Most of the columns in this page are empty today. Filling them becomes the duty of our journalists, social and political thinkers, translators and transcreators. Tamil Insight calls every aspiring Tamil who has the gift of writing, to do his or her duty to help Tamil Insight serve the nation. Tamil philosophy motivates Tamil action and Tamil action defines Tamil philosophy. Since ancient times, a visitor to any part in Tamil Speaking Land enjoys equality and fraternity. Tamil resolute to extend equality and fraternity recommends reciprocity from others. Without Equality and Fraternity among peoples, the Nations of the World cannot uphold Justice and Dignity to All Peoples. Without these, Peace and Harmony as world order will remain a distant dream to the United Nations. If with our effort Tamil Insight is able to draw the attention of the International community to the views, concerns and wishes of the ordinary Tamil man and woman, then, we will be happy our purpose is served.

Video: British Parliament on Thursday (18 12 2008) debated the present situation in Sri Lanka. Parliamentarians of various parties highlighted the concerns of the Tamil diaspora on the situation in their homeland. The adjournment debate on Sri Lanka was proposed by Mr Andrew Pelling MP (Independent Conservative Croydon Central) and chaired by Deputy Speaker Sir Michael Lord.
Vanni Situation
Members of British Parliament from all three main political parties in a show of solidarity and concern spoke on 14 Oct 2008 in support of Tamils and the general suffering of the Tamils, particularly in Vanni, North of Sri Lanka.
