(Tamil Insight, 19 09 2008) - “Is India in Sri Lanka’s pocket?”. This is the caption of an in depth article published in an English daily based in Colombo. The contents of the article are worth pondering upon.
The Colombo based English daily has carried that article analyzing whether power struggle in the Asian region has made certain powerful countries in the region to get involved in the Lankan ethnic issue and in the resultant civil war.
It is no secret that there is a power struggle between two big forces- India and China – over the leadership in the region.
Similarly there is a power struggle between India and Pakistan in the Indian subcontinent for leadership in the region. Since the division of India and Pakistan in 1947, both countries have been engaged in conflicts. India’ role in the establishment of Bangladesh as a separate country made the relationship worse.
In such a back ground, it is common knowledge that Pakistan always opposes any proposition of India, any moves of India in regard to any issue in this region.
The clever strategies of the Colombo administration makes one to wonder whether India, Pakistan and China – the triumvirate- are in Sri Lanka’s pocket.
The direct participation of India in the war against the LTTE was exposed in the air attack by the LTTE in the Vavuniya HQ of the Sri Lankan security forces last week. It was also common knowledge prior to the air attack that Pakistan and China are openly providing war weapons and other assistance to the Lankan forces in its war against Delhi.
As Vaiko has pointed out, India has been caught red handed in its direct participation in the Lankan war following the air attack by the LTTE on the Vavuniya military camp.
Therefore, it has been confirmed that the triumvirate, namely India Pakistan and China, are supportive of the Lankan government in its war against the LTTE in pursuance of their struggle for dominance in the region.
This makes the analyst feel that in the war against the LTTE, China, India and Pakistan stand united in their support for the Sri Lankan government.
It is also confirmed that viewed from this stand point, it is an Asian war against the LTTE.
The article has concluded that India has joined hands with undesirable companions to suppress the Tamil freedom struggle.
“ Oh India, is it justifiable?” This echoes in the minds of every Tamil.
Meanwhile, the analyst in his article expresses his surprise in the following words:
“ Hence it is a wonder, how Vellupillai Prabaharan is remaining safe in the midst of this war involving the Asian powers ?”
