(Uthayan Editorial via Tamil Insight, 12 01 2009) - All the global Tamils who had waited with hope that Tamilnadu chief minister M Karunanidhi - who had hitherto used Tamil and Tamils only to promote his family interests and for political games - would do some justice to the cause of Eelam Tamils, at least now towards the end of his life, are only in for disappointment.
The Tamilnadu fumed over the plight of Eelam Tamils and gave various expressions to its emotions including demonstrations, hunger fasts, human chains, threats to quit, all party meetings, meeting with Prime Minister etc… etc. Yet there has been no impact.
The Chief Minister of Tamilnadu who had to lead the State in this issue, coordinate the sentiments of the people and do something constructive for Eelam Tamils is instead playing a hide and seek game.
It was this Kalaignar Karunanidhi who had first issued the threat that MPs from Tamilnadu will resign altogether if the Centre failed to take any concrete step in the Lankan crisis. After setting a deadline of two weeks for the Centre, Karunanidhi took the resignation letters from MPs and kept them in his pocket. Later he turned the tables on his own resignation tactic and withdrew from it. It is more than two months since the deadline was issued to the Centre. Nothing has happened.
Then followed the drama of all party meeting, visits to New Delhi, meeting with the Prime Minister and finally the announcement of Indian External Affairs Minister visiting Lanka ‘very soon’.
There is still no impact.
It is more than a month and half since the Chief Minister announced that External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will visit Colombo. Now the global Tamils are again hoodwinked with the assurance that Mukherjee will visit Colombo soon as promised by the Prime Minister during his recent visit to Chennai. Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to visit Colombo in February for a SAARC meeting. Till then the Chief Minister will prolong the issue and project the visit of Pranab Mukherjee to Colombo as a visit to discuss the Lankan crisis at his instance. We would then be hoodwinked again.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh officially inaugurated the conference of overseas Indians in Nandambakkam, Chennai last week. Kalaignar Karunanidhi also took part in the conference. Addressing the overseas Indians in presence of the Prime Minister, Karunanidhi did not utter a word about the Sri Lankan Tamils. If he was so, the Prime Minister was a step ahead.
Without uttering a single word about the Tamils who are suffering with untold miseries in the neighbouring Sri Lanka, the Prime Minister shed crocodile tears on the plight of Palestine residents of Gaza – whose woes are similar to that of Eelam Tamils - occupied by Israel.
Karunanidhi who cannot openly raise the issue of Sri Lankan Tamils before the Prime Minister -
Karunanidhi who has strategically blunted the overwhelming response of Tamilnadu to the plight of Eelam Tamils –
has like an innocent wondered if ‘the government should continue’ in a public meeting recently. This is only to show that he is also concerned and to divert the attention of anger generated by his failure in Eelam crisis.
Looking at this background, the doubts raised by Ananda Vikatan in its editorial is reflected in the minds of not just Eelam Tamils but Tamils across the world.
“Strong doubts are being raised as to whether Sri Lankan government has a memorandum of understanding with the Centre like this: ‘We will defeat the Tigers. Till then, hoodwink the people with your hide and seek games’
The agonizing truth is that the Tamilnadu government which by imposing conditions achieved everything it wanted within stipulated time, has done not even a grain of thing for the Eelam Tamils.”
These doubts raised by Ananda Vikatan are reflected in the minds of Tamils across the world.
In this context, on behalf of the Tamils in the world, we want to raise the same question raised by the Chief Minister to the Tamilnadu government.
“Should your government continue, Mr Kalaignar? After all this?”
It is ridiculous at this ripe age to continue in power without being of any use. No… No…. It is greatly ridiculous.
(An English translation of the Editorial in the Uthayan, a Tamil daily, based in Jaffna. Translation by tamilinsight.org)
Almost all of the young tamils are inerbriated. Village people are kept as vote bank. They are made to beg for rice for one rupee. They are forced to earn Rs.80 only daily. So they have lost the dream of prosperous life. They got adddicted to freebies. All the government employees
are bundled and contained with pay hike and allowances hike.
Most of the media is controlled by anti-tamils. Most of the political parties and forums are led by non-tamils. Whenever tamil sentiments arise we are forced to encounter caste and religious clashes. Thanks to the messiahs there at Delhi.
We are mentally and emotionally made to follow to lot of isms which are totally anti tamil.
We are not having selfless leadership. They are bonded servants to Delhi.
How can we ordinary people think independently?
Finally I can say tamilnadu is fuming.
The tamils are betrayed by the indians. They must rethink on supporting the concept of India itself. MK collected money for Gujarat victims, Bihar Victims and Kashmir Victims. Did these states’ people support tamils’ cause? Tamils should never again donate anything for any Indian Cause. Our resources should only be used for our people. Historic opportunity to reassert our right to freedom from this hegemonistic central government rule run by anti-tamils. Beware of casteists and religionists. They are traitors. Britishers blundered by uniting this land. People have not been united. Hindi fascists, hindu fanatics, sanskrit saboteurs are the threats to this land. If justice gets delayed by design then this nation must cease to exist.
Every actor needs a make-up!
But TN CM is an actor without any make up!
The entire Delhi “Pallaku” has been shouldered by TN CM!
But, the cunning people sitting in the “pallaku” are eradicating Tamil community: Just tell me,who is responsible?
